Reframing Our Thoughts

How many of us have said “I have to go to work tomorrow?” “I have to go to 3 meetings today.” “I have to manage these cases today.” “I have to cook dinner.”

Try changing all of the “have to” to “get to!” I get to go to work! I get to car pool my child’s friend group tonight! I get to research a presentation! Using get changes the framing from negative to positive. The reality is that we take some privileges for granted. I am going to mindfully and purposefully try to use “get to” instead of “have to.” I believe that it will change my perspective…in a good way. Words have power.

Try it.  Let me know how this strategy works for you.
